Troop 5 Scoutmaster Announcements – Mar 26, 2023

Tonight we covered all of the gear that scouts will need for our upcoming overnight backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. We gave out some printed checklists and will also send out and post links to electronic versions of those lists in the next day or two. The highest priority item right now for all scouts and leaders is to ensure that your hiking boots fit and are broken in. If you need to buy new ones, get them ASAP so that you can properly break them in before the trip. Proper footwear (hiking boots) is a hard requirement for this backpacking trip. We cannot allow scouts to go if they arrive with improper footwear. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of the adult leaders.

On April 16th, the troop will meet at Mount Trashmore Park for a practice hike during normal troop meeting time. Please plan to drop off and pick up your scout from this location on that date, not the church. (The troop committee meeting has been rescheduled to April 23rd.)

For the actual hike, we plan to gather at the church at 4:00pm on Friday, April 19th to get as early as a start to our drive to the mountains as possible and can complete our short hike into camp that night hopefully before 10:00pm. We plan to return to the church between 3:00pm and 4:00pm on Sunday, April 21st.

There is NO troop meeting next Tuesday, April 2nd. For those on spring break, enjoy your time off from school.
