Welcome to the 2024 Boy Scout Popcorn Season! Shayna Hart (Bubba’s mom) is coordinating our fundraising effort again this year.
Popcorn Season kicks off in August and lasts until November! Last year we sold $29,831 in popcorn, which provided over $11,825 for our Troop. This year our goal is $10,000! To accomplish this goal, we need all scouts to help. If every scout sold $850 we would easily meet our goal and each scout could have his dues paid for next year! Scouts can sell door to door, online, and at our show and sales.
POPCORN
There are a few new flavors, some past flavors are making a comeback, and some flavors are still hanging around. We may have some samples at our next meeting. Shayna will have popcorn the first weekend of September. So, start selling and taking orders!
BROCHURES
Shayna has brochures available now. Contact Shayna if you would like to stop by their house to pick up some brochures. She will also have them at our next meeting, which will include a Popcorn kick-off and a “how-to” demonstration by Bubba, our troop’s perennial top seller.
ONLINE ORDERS
Online orders allow friends and family out of town to support your scouting experience. We receive 30% of online sales. Sellers’ codes remain the same year to year. If you don’t know your code, please contact Shayna and she can provide it to you. Items online may differ from the brochure items. Also, online sales have free shipping, which is a great way to drum up out of town sales.
SHOW & SALES
If you would like to sign up for a show and sale, there will be sign up sheets at our next meeting (September 3rd). We divided all show and sales into 1 hour time slots, but scouts may sign up for more than 1 time slot. Scouts must be in Class A uniform when selling, especially at show and sales. Also, please plan to stay with your scout while he is selling at any Show & Sales, unless you have made other specific arrangements with an adult leader from the troop. Shayna will provide all needed materials for the Show & Sales, but can only work a few of the booths herself.
INCENTIVES
The prize sheet for this year’s popcorn season shows the prizes offered by council, as well as prizes provided by Troop 5 for extra motivation. Please review the prize sheet and determine which prize you would most like to earn!

This upcoming Saturday, May 25 from 11-2, I plan on having my Eagle Project. The Project will be making a Prayer Garden for my chruch, Blessed Sacrament, located at https://maps.app.goo.gl/7LZW5aHMtFytKyaZ8. Tasks will include cutting out grass, placing down weed prevention sheets, planting plants, placing stones, installing benches. If the project is not finished on that day and a lot of work is still needed till completion, the plan is to come back Sunday after mass from 1-3. However, I am confident in our ability in completing it in one day like we have done in the past. Food will be provided for lunch after the project. If you are available and willing to come out to help, please let Mr. Scott and myself know so we know who is coming and how much food to get. It will mean a lot to me if you do show up and help.
Please feel free to bring your own hats, gloves, and shovels to use to help as well.
We will be conducting a mandatory swim test for all scouts and adults attending our May canoe trip. This swim test is in place of our regularly scheduled meeting.
Troop 5 will be participating in Scout Sunday on February 4th. Plan to attend the service at Advent Episcopal beginning at 9:30am – our scouts will carry the flag & participate in readings.
We’re planning a brunch celebration following the service (beginning approximately 11am) as well as a Court of Honor (beginning approximately noon). We’re asking families to sign up for a brunch potluck item to share. We will NOT have access to the kitchen that morning so plan ahead!
Please RSVP & sign up by Monday, 1/29 so the committee has time to fill in any missing blanks!
I am writing this message to inform all of you of the sad passing of Jaden Delanty on Friday, January 19th. For those of you who are new to the troop, Jaden and his father Steve were members of Troop 5. Steve was also the acting Scoutmaster of Troop 5 for a period of time. Jaden was a great Scout and will be truly missed. We are keeping the Delanty family in our thoughts and prayers.
