Troop 5 is in the process of planning a September camping trip to Camp Moonyah in Chesapeake but we need input on which weekend works best. Going forward, the plan will be to camp the 3rd weekend of each month. Please complete the RSVP Form by Tuesday, 9/12 so we can plan accordingly. Details will be finalized on the 12th.
Welcome to the 2023 Boy Scout Popcorn Season! Shayna Hart (Bubba’s mom) is coordinating our fundraising effort again this year.
Popcorn Season kicks off in August and lasts until November! Last year we sold $13,340 in popcorn, which provided over $5,000 for our Troop. This year our goal is $15,000! To accomplish this goal, we need all scouts to help. If every scout sold $750 we would easily meet our goal and each scout could have his dues paid for next year! Scouts can sell door to door, online, and at our show and sales.
POPCORN
There are a few new flavors, some past flavors are making a comeback, and some flavors are still hanging around. We will have some samples at our next meeting. Shayna has popcorn at their house and is ready to fill any orders. So, start selling!
BROCHURES
Shayna has brochures available now. Contact Shayna if you would like to stop by their house to pick up some brochures. She will also have them at our next meeting, which will include a Popcorn kick-off and a “how-to” demonstration by Bubba, who was the top seller in the entire Tidewater Council last year.
ONLINE ORDERS
Online orders allow friends and family out of town to support your scouting experience. We receive 30% of online sales. Sellers’ codes remain the same year to year. If you don’t know your code, please contact Shayna and we can provide it to you. Items online may differ from the brochure items. Also, online sales have free shipping, which is a great way to drum up out of town sales.
SHOW & SALES
If you would like to sign up for a show and sale, please contact Shayna with the day and time slot. We divided all show and sales into 1 hour time slots, but scouts may sign up for more than 1 time slot. Scouts must be in Class A uniform when selling, especially at show and sales. We will also need other adults to help with Popcorn booths. Shayna will provide all needed materials for the Show and Sales, but can’t work all the booths.
INCENTIVES
The prize sheet for this year’s popcorn season shows the prizes offered by council, as well as prizes provided by Troop 5 for extra motivation. Please review the prize sheet and determine which prize you would most like to earn!

Scout Troop 5 offers a year-round adventure-based program designed to offer and encourage effective character, citizenship, and fitness training for youth ages 11-17.
In addition to camping, scouts and adult leaders enjoy activities such as rock-climbing and rappelling, canoeing, target-shooting, visits to military bases, and more while accommodating the needs of today’s busy families.
We’re currently accepting new scouts to our troop and patrols. We typically meet at the The Episcopal Church of the Advent (9629 Norfolk Ave) every Tuesday evening. Sometimes we have offsite meetings, particularly in the summer – you can check our troop calendar just to be sure. When you are ready to join, it’s as easy as applying online at the button below.
Troop 5 is actively selling Pecatonica River popcorn to support our activities in the coming year. Find us at our upcoming “show and sales” at our local Lowe’s and Food Lion. We also go door-to-door and sell online. Please spread the word and help our troop reach our fundraising goal of $12,000! Thank you!
Find resources for scouts, youth leaders, adult leaders, and parents on this site’s Resources page. This includes a Scoutbook tutorial for parents and health/medical forms. Looking for merit badge counselors? That information is managed within Scoutbook – login and search for a merit badge counselor from within our troop and in the local area beyond.
